Easter. Passover. Hope.

In my life, Judaism is the embodiment of hope … Hope not as an illusion, not something abstract but instead as a real and true foundation of all in life that gives a person strength and happiness, as well as the path to a life well lived.

Our national anthem — yes ours because every Jew — those of us in the Israeli Jewish community and in the diaspora Jewish community are Israelis … Our anthem is titled “Hatikva” The Hope. The word for hope in Hebrew is Tikvah.

To me — my upbringing, my entire life hope has been defined as an active verb. It is to do all needed, to feel all that matters with hope, a knowledge that no matter the circumstances or concerns hope exists. In this Spring season of Passover once again Jews are reminded that our hope of survival and triumph was based in reality — our lives and ways to make better our world were realized.

For Christians hope is a part of their journey toward a life redeemed by grace and same as Judaism from which they came to be they too understand only by having a hope based in not only prayer but equally deed can the blessings of appreciation for each day, every night we live be realized.

So it is now March 2024 for Easter and for Passover April 2024, in the Hebrew Calendar the month of Nissan that I say without one bit of hesitation that it is HOPE that will continue to make us human beings ready, willing and able to persevere and thrive in this world—together!
